India’s exports of pharmaceuticals to the US fell by 37% in the five months to February. According to reports, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) imposed an import ban last year on products made by Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. and that accounts for some of the drop, adding that increases in drug exports to the US from China, Israel and South Korea ranged from 27% to 41%.

The Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association was quoted as saying that overall exports fell 1% in the latest fiscal year, though it predicted 16% growth in 2009-10.
